What methods can be used to relax the dog and how do I go about it?.
One of the simplest forms or rules that should actually be clear to every dog owner is:
- Regular exercise: Daily walks and playtime are essential to burn off excess energy.
- Quiet retreat: Provide a cosy place where your dog can rest safely and undisturbed.
- Soft music: Calming music or special animal relaxation sounds can be very effective (Brown tone).
- Massage: A gentle dog massage can work wonders and help your dog to reduce stress.
- Toys: Chew toys or puzzle games can provide mental stimulation and help to find peace.
- Aromatherapy: Some dogs react positively to certain scents, such as lavender. However, make sure that there are no allergies.
But it would be too easy if this worked for every dog. Every dog is different and therefore needs to be trained differently. Fortunately, we have already acquired an enormous amount of knowledge that is specifically tailored to dogs and we can now put this into practice.
Every dog is different, so it may take some time to find out what works best.
Relaxation is very important for dogs for many important reasons
- Stress reductionJust like humans, dogs can also be stressed. Stress can be triggered by many factors, such as changes in the environment, loud noises or new experiences. These stress factors can be reduced through relaxation.
- HealthChronic stress can lead to health problems in dogs, including digestive disorders, sleep disorders and a weakened immune system. Relaxation helps to reduce these risks.
- Behavioural problemsA stressed dog can develop behavioural problems such as excessive barking, destructiveness or aggression. Relaxation helps to promote balanced and peaceful behaviour.
- BindingRelaxation exercises such as massages or quiet cuddling times strengthen the bond between you and your dog. This time together builds trust and closeness.
- Restful sleepA relaxed dog sleeps better, which in turn improves its general health and well-being.
A relaxed dog is happier, healthier and often shows more positive behaviour and therefore has more freedom. Which relaxation techniques have worked best for your dog so far? I will now give you a little insight into how it works for me.

This technique not only promotes relaxation, but also strengthens the bond between you and your dog. If your dog likes it, you could introduce it as a regular ritual. Have the courage and don't give up straight away, every dog must first learn to be touched and to understand and accept this as relaxation.
