Tracking
A tracking dog is a dog that has received training in tracking work. In particular, sporting dogs that have passed a tracking dog test (FH) are labelled as such. Tracking dogs are used as service dogs, in dog sports or as hunting dogs. Rescue dogs also learn elements of tracking work.

Tracking work is one of the most demanding tasks for dogs. With the right training, a tracking dog learns to make optimum use of its excellent nose for this work. He can prove his skills in tracking dog tests. The tracking dog test consists of different levels, which have been defined by the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale). The first test consists of section A of the working dog test level 1, which can also be taken as a separate test and is then called Tracking Test 1 (FPr 1). The highest tracking dog test is the IPO FH. Here the dog must work out two tracks laid by different tracklayers at different locations over two days.
